Maurice Brazil Prendergast was instructed in Boston. He worked his approach to Europe on a cow boat and concentrated in Paris at Julian’s and the Colarossi Academy. He floated between New York City and Europe, visiting different nations. In New York, he joined the autonomous gathering of artisans called the Eight. Prendergast developed a style much the same as post impressionism. A lot more liberated in his brushstroke, his scenes and figure synthesis evoked the nature of a gay embroidery his artwork of Promenade, Gloucester is a trademark.
