Felix Vallotton was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. He learned at the Academy Julian with Toulouse-Lautrec. His most famous paintings were wood engravings, which were hugely renowned and brought him quick achievement. He is viewed as a harbinger of craftsman etchers, including such names as Kandinsky, Munch, and Beardsley.
