Walter Ufer was born in the province of Kentucky in 1876 and passed on in 1936. He was an American painter situated in Taos, New Mexico, who zeroed in on the ethnic and local scene and figure paintings. His folks were from Germany, so Ufer wanted to travel Europe for some time after a lithographic apprenticeship. While in Europe, he chose to remain in Germany to concentrate on Hamburg and Dresden. After returning to America, he worked in Chicago as a printmaker and educated at a neighborhood craftsmanship school. In 1914 he finally got comfortable in Taos, New Mexico, and got one of the “Taos Ten” and related with the Taos Society of Artists.
